Role description
We are currently working in partnership with a well-known charity based in Romford, Essex, who are currently seeking a Financial Accountant to join their team on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
There will be some ad-hoc travel to their offices (circa once per month) but you can work remotely the rest of the time. Annual salary is £55,000.
The ideal candidate will have worked within the charity/not-for-profit sector and be full qualified/part-qualified.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Provide strategic financial leadership — Develop financial strategies, budgets, forecasts and models, manage financial risks, and advise the Board and senior leadership on financial performance and opportunities
Lead month-end and year-end financial close — Oversee journals, accruals, reconciliations, adjustments, cut offs, consolidation and the timely production of accurate financial results
Prepare financial and statutory reporting — Produce monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with FRS 102, IFRS and Charities SORP, as applicable
Manage audit and compliance requirements — Lead the external audit process, coordinate deliverables, respond to auditor queries, prepare statutory accounts and ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and internal requirements
Oversee financial controls and balance sheet integrity — Maintain the general ledger and control accounts, prepare balance sheet reconciliations and lead schedules, investigate discrepancies and strengthen internal controls
Deliver management reporting and financial analysis — Produce management accounts, variance analysis, budgets and forecasts, monitor KPIs, and provide financial insight to support organisational decision-making
Act as a finance business partner and stakeholder lead — Support senior leaders and operational teams with budgets, business cases and strategic initiatives, while building effective relationships with auditors, banks, funders, donors, trustees and other stakeholders
Drive financial process improvement and risk management — Lead going-concern and impairment reviews, identify financial risks, improve year-end and reporting processes, and develop robust policies, templates and documentation
